A safety tab is an additional component on folding boxes that prevents the lid from being opened accidentally. To secure an insert flap with a safety flap, for example, the safety flap is positioned like a tongue at the front of the folding carton. Once the insert flap is closed, the safety flap is inserted into an additional slot located at the fold between the insert flap and the closing tongue. The safety flap can be easily removed at any time through a finger-sized cut-out.
For particularly large folding boxes, several security tabs can also be attached if necessary. The exact placement for different folding boxes is also described in the ECMA catalogue.
