What are food labels?
Strictly speaking, food labels are the same stickers you know from other packaging. However, when labeling food, you must ensure that you do not violate food law. How food is labeled is regulated uniformly throughout Europe by the Food Information Regulation (LMIV). The LMIV has been valid since December 13, 2014, and with regard to nutritional labeling since December 13, 2016.

In principle, the following information is mandatory to be indicated on the food:
Foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and potatoes are exempt from these regulations if they have not been "treated" or foods that consist of only one ingredient.
What is the meaning of the various symbols and icons on food labels?
In addition to the legally required labels on food, there are a large number of seals and symbols. The awarding of such labels and test marks varies widely. For buyers, the seals evoke certain quality expectations, are also often used for marketing purposes or are intended to facilitate the purchase decision. We would like to introduce you to some well-known symbols in more detail:

In the case of vegan products, all ingredients, processing aids, additives, carriers, flavors and enzymes of animal origin must be omitted in order for them to be awarded the vegan seal. |
 | Identity marker | The oval mark is displayed on packages of dairy, egg, fish and meat products. It is a mandatory mark so that food monitoring can trace the products back to the manufacturer. The company that last handled or packaged the product operates according to EU-wide hygiene standards and is monitored accordingly. |

Our bestsellers among the materials are our white paper and the (polypropylene) PP film in matt. However, depending on the application, a different material / material property is needed. Paper is often used for the production of food labels, especially for bottles and jars, because the labels can be removed without residues. Paper is also the optimum solution for sealing labels, as it makes the seal easier to tear. PP film can also be used for bottles, especially if the labels are to be resistant to scratches and abrasion. For transparent containers whose contents should remain visible, our transparent PP film is suitable. Furthermore, we can recommend our (polyethylene) PE material for stand-up pouches as it is more flexible than PP and therefore adapts perfectly to deformable containers.
In the nutritional supplements area, you can use our metallized paper in silver or gold. The metallic effects allow you to create beautiful finishes..
Ingredients and nutritional values printed in one language only can be covered with our opaque adhesive papers. This gives you the opportunity to prepare your product for export to other countries. Generally it is possible to choose thermal transfer printability for all materials at packaging warehouse. This allows food manufacturers to subsequently print information such as batch numbers or best-before dates on the day of filling.

Bottle labels

The labels can be placed on the bottom, side and/or neck of the bottle. Labels provide important information about the contents, manufacturer, ingredients and usage instructions, among other things. Barcode labels
Barcode labels have become indispensable in logistics, production and especially in the food trade. A barcode label allows all important information about a product to be retrieved in a matter of seconds. This controls the flow of goods and saves time and money. Our barcode labels are produced on our modern digital printing machines. We guarantee a clean, sharp print image for the lines and bars. In the food retail sector, they are used to label products and assign prices to them. This simplifies and speeds up work processes. Packaging warehouse offers you both sequentially numbered and fixed barcodes. Barcodes also include QR codes, for example. These are 2D barcodes used to encode large amounts of data in a single code – they are particularly common in mobile tagging for mobile phones. 1D barcodes, on the other hand, are one-dimensional barcodes, also known as ‘supermarket codes’.
Regulations for the labelling of fruit and vegetables
Labels must meet certain requirements in order to be approved for use with food. If the labels come into direct contact with the food, for example in the case of unpackaged fruit and vegetables, they must be food-safe. This means that neither the adhesive nor the printed ink may transfer any substances to the food. These regulations must also be observed in cases of indirect contact, for example, if substances can reach the food through the packaging. Only food-safe labels may be used for such purposes. The inks and adhesive must be food-safe to prevent contamination of the food. In addition, the adhesive must be odourless to avoid irritation.
Food safety and consumer protection: the most important requirements for food labels
There are five basic requirements that food packaging (including labels) must meet:
- The printed side must not come into direct contact with the contents. The inside must therefore not be printed.
- In special cases, cut edges must be at least 5 mm wide and unprinted.
