What is the difference between large letter boxes and maxi letter boxes?

• Large letter boxes must not exceed the maximum height of 2 cm and the maximum weight of 500 g for cost-effective and fast postal dispatch. The large letter is used in every industry.
• The maximum external dimensions of a maxi letter  of exactly 35.3 x 25 cm are no different from those of a large letter box. However, the maxi letter box can be sent with a height of 5 cm and a maximum weight of 1,000 g. That is 3 cm higher and 500 g heavier than the classic large letter box, which significantly increases its flexibility of use.

Despite the higher maximum weight, you benefit from the advantages of letter post with both options, such as posting in the letterbox and fast delivery times. As the so-called jumbo among letters, the maxi letter is not only ideal for the secure dispatch of documents, records and printed matter. It can also be used as excellent shipping packaging for textiles, books, small items and small products. Maxi letter boxes are used in all sectors.

Maxi and large letter for international shipping

If your goods are to be sent to destinations outside Germany, you can also choose a variant with the addition "international". The postage for an international large letter is 3.70 euros. But there are also differences in terms of dimensions. The size is not based on maximum but minimum values:

• Width: min. 9 cm
• Length: min. 14 cm

However, the sum of the length, width and height must not exceed 90 cm. Furthermore, no side of the large letter may be longer than 60 cm. The maximum weight for international large letters is 500 g.

There is also the maxi letter international. The dimensions are identical to those of the international large letter. However, the permissible total weight here is double at 1 kg. However, there is also the option of doubling the total weight to 2 kg at a higher postage rate. Postage for an international maxi letter weighing up to 1 kg costs 7 euros, and 17 euros for a letter weighing up to 2 kg.

Shipping via Deutsche Post: You can choose between these formats

If you would like to send a large letter or maxi letter box via Deutsche Post, you must adhere to the specified dimensions and maximum weight. The following data is relevant for you:

Important: In this case, the length must be at least 14 cm and the width at least 9 cm. No side may exceed the length of 60 cm.

E-flute

The E-flute is the so-called ultra-fine corrugation. The corrugation height is 1.5 mm. Boxes made from this material have good stability and a load capacity of 10 kg. Thanks to the narrow corrugation pitch of 3 mm, the surface is very smooth and therefore easy to print on. A total of three color combinations are available: outside and inside white, outside and inside brown and outside white and inside brown.
As the maximum permitted weight for large letter and maxi letter boxes is 1 kg, our E-flute corrugated cardboard is the perfect and most cost-effective choice for a shipping box of this type. However, if you want to pack sensitive goods particularly securely, we also offer two other types of material.

B-flute

The B-flute – also known as fine corrugation – has a corrugation height of 3 mm and so offers very good stability and strength. You can pack products weighing up to 20 kg. The corrugation pitch is 4.8 mm, which ensures flat surfaces that are easy to print on. The same color combinations are available as for the E-flute. Due to the higher flutes and the larger spacing, slightly larger air cushions form within the corrugated cardboard with B-flute. This increases the edge crush resistance and burst strength. The B-flute therefore offers better protection than the E-flute - however, the additional load-bearing capacity does not play a decisive role for maxi letter and large letter boxes.

EB-flute

The same applies to our EB-flute. It is a combination of the other two types of corrugations. The material mix increases the load capacity to a maximum of 30 kg with a corrugation height of 4.5 mm. The narrow corrugation pitch of 4.8 mm ensures good printing results. You can choose between the color constellations white/white and brown/brown. Edge crush resistance and bursting strength are highest here. The EB-flute is therefore recommended for sending very sensitive goods that require special protection.

There are many design options available to you at packaging warehouse. Not only do we offer you the option of printing your packaging full-surface in all Euroscale colors – we also have various finishing techniques available to make your packaging a real eye-catcher and an effective advertising medium.

For example, you have the option of applying a protective coating or laminate. This increases protection against moisture, dirt and other external influences. Your printed image is also better protected against scratches and contamination. Varnish and laminate also ensure that the colors shine even brighter and details are shown to their best advantage.

You don't just want to send your customers goods, you want to surprise and delight them? Then our hinged boxes have special features that you can use for this. Because the hinged lids can be printed full-surface. You can not only place your advertising messages, your claim or other CI elements on the outside of the box. You also have the option of printing the inside of the box - including the lid - in all Euroscale colors.

This can create an additional surprise effect when the lid is opened or when the goods are unpacked. Whether the inside of the lid is printed with instructions for the product inside, a greeting or a call-to-action is up to you. What can I send with a maxi letter?

You can use the maxi letter format ideally if you want to send flat items. These can include business reports, other company documents and printed products such as information material, magazines, catalogs, brochures or flat books. Other products for which a maxi letter is suitable packaging are

As a general rule, the letter must not be more than 5 cm high and weigh no more than 1,000 g. For an additional fee, it is possible to send maxi letters with a maximum weight of 2,000 g in Germany and internationally (Maxibrief Plus).

What is a Maxibrief Plus?

The Maxibrief Plus is basically an oversized Maxibrief that is treated and sent by Deutsche Post as a special format. It may exceed the dimensions of the maxi letter and weigh a maximum of 2 kg in total. The maximum dimensions in this case are

This variant is also possible: length plus width plus height equals 900 mm, whereby the extension must never exceed a length of 600 mm.

This means that the Maxibrief Plus is as heavy and large as a classic parcel, but is classified as a simple letter. You benefit from faster delivery and can take advantage of optional additional services (registered mail, cash on delivery, etc.). However, there are additional costs for the oversized format. Within Germany, you have to pay postage of 4.95 euros. If you would like to send a Maxibrief Plus abroad, you will have to pay 17 euros postage.
