FEFCO 0201: Folding cartons
Folding cartons (according to FEFCO 0201) are among the packaging classics. They are easy to construct, can be set up in no time at all and can be freely configured as desired. You can also freely define the format and choose the material that suits you from our wide range. But most importantly, our FEFCO-0201 folding cartons provide reliable protection for your products, whether as a shipping box or product packaging.
What's more, your folding cartons can be fully printed at packaging warehouse and individually designed according to your wishes. Simply use the online configurator to tell us what your idea of the perfect folding carton looks like - and we'll turn it into reality for you quickly and in the highest quality. You do not have to observe a minimum order quantity. We will also be happy to produce a sample for you.

What is a FEFCO 0201 American cardboard box?
FEFCO 0201 folding cartons are extremely simple in design and consist of only one piece of corrugated cardboard. At its factory edge there is a flap, which is glued to the opposite edge of the carton. This step takes place during production - so we deliver your cartons pre-glued and ready for use.
Along the lid and bottom opening are four flaps. When setting up and closing, you simply fold them inwards - first the two closures on the wide side, then those on the long side.
Important: The carton flaps do not catch. Without additional bonding, they do not provide a firm hold for the carton contents. To pack your goods securely, you will therefore need a parcel or strapping band.
What makes American cardboard boxes special?
Folding cartons are mainly used as shipping packaging in e-commerce - it does not matter whether B2C or B2B. Also, the robust corrugated cardboard boxes are used as product packaging, especially as a solution for fragile and sensitive goods.
Folding cartons are a popular packaging choice for a number of reasons. In addition to their excellent protective properties, the ease of handling, the wide range of design options and the sustainability aspects are the key factors with which corrugated cardboard boxes are able to convince.
Reliable goods protection
The transport routes taken by goods in e-commerce are often long, bumpy and so always associated with a certain risk - especially with regard to sensitive goods. However, this can be minimized very easily with the right choice of packaging.
Corrugated cardboard is convincing here for several reasons. One of the main advantages is the high protective performance with only very low material consumption and own weight. Because although corrugated cardboard consists of several, but very thin layers of paper, the material has excellent barrier properties.
Firstly, the corrugated walls form a multilayer barrier against external influences such as moisture, dirt and UV rays. Secondly, the inner corrugated layer (along with its cavities) forms a buffer zone that effectively absorbs scratches and impact damage.
Recycling & Sustainability
Goods protection is one thing, environmental protection often another. But with our FEFCO-0201 folding cartons, it's easy to ensure both at the same time. Because corrugated cardboard not only forms a robust shell, but also scores points with regard to recycling.
On the one hand, all corrugated cardboard in our range consists of 99% recycled waste paper - the remaining percentage is accounted for by newly added virgin fibers. On the other hand, the material is nevertheless fully recyclable again after use.
The various recycling codes on the packaging also provide precise information on what material a product is made of and how it can be properly recycled.
Customisable design options
You have a free hand in designing your FEFCO-0201 folding cartons. You alone decide on the specific format, the print and the finishing - our online configurator simply provides you with the corresponding options. At packaging warehouse you have a wide choice of different materials, so that you can create the perfect packaging for every application.
There is plenty of room for your creative ideas. Because our folding cartons are fully printable. Your designs may therefore also extend to the inner surfaces and flaps of the boxes.
Thanks to digital printing, it is even possible to personalize each individual box, for example with a greeting formula or a short thank-you note with a personal address - in this way, you are guaranteed a great unboxing experience.

With our online configurator you have a practical tool at hand that guides you step by step through the configuration of your desired boxes. In addition to the required number of pieces, you also inform us of all the essential specifications of your packaging, from the material to the finishing.
The price always remains transparent and updates automatically with each of your entries. This means that you always have a clear view of the costs during configuration. This also gives you the opportunity to compare the prices of different packaging options.
Materials: Our fine waves
For our FEFCO-0201 folding cartons, we use different corrugations, all of which have their own special characteristics:
- The E flute is a fine flute with a thickness of 1.5 millimeters. It is particularly suitable for product packaging or weights of up to 7 kilograms. It is available in three color variations - white/white, white/brown and brown/brown (outside/inside).
- The B flute is a 3 millimeter thick fine flute and carries weights of up to 14 kilograms. This makes it ideal for packaging light to medium-weight products. It is available in three versions, white/white, white/brown and brown/brown.
- The EB flute is a double flute consisting of one E and one B flute. This results in a thickness of around 4.5 millimeters and a load capacity of up to 32 kilograms. The material is thus perfectly suited for heavy contents. The EB flute is only available in one color, white or brown.
Free format: Dimensions accurate to the millimetre
The basic design of the folding cartons is standardized by the FEFCO code. However, the format is variable. You can therefore decide on the dimensions of the cartons individually. However, the following minimum and maximum values must be observed:
- Length: 50 to 700 mm
- Width: 50 to 500 mm
- Height: 50 to 600 mm
Note: For technical reasons, the maximum values mentioned can not always be combined with each other. If your desired dimensions are not realizable, our online configurator will inform you directly.
Printing process: offset or digital
Even though both printing processes deliver an excellent print image, there are smal ldifferences between digital and offset printing. As a standard, we decide which printing process to use based on the size of the print run.
In this way, we can pass on the advantages of both techniques to our customers: The offset process, for example, is more cost-effective and time-efficient for larger print runs. Digital printing, on the other hand, offers a time and cost advantage for short and medium runs.
Another factor is variable print data. Unlike the offset process, digital printing makes it possible to print changing designs within just one print run. Additional tooling costs are not incurred thanks to digital data transmission.
Finishes: varnish or laminate
The surface properties of corrugated cardboard can be optimized very easily with the help of finishing. One of the most common methods, for example, is the application of a transparent protective coating or lamination. These two finishes offer several advantages at the same time:
On the one hand, coated materials are more resistant to moisture, dirt, scratches and light-induced color fading. On the other hand, coatings and laminates also influence the visible and tangible material properties.
With packaging warehouse, for example, you have a choice of varnishes and laminates with either a matte or glossy look, as well as a soft-touch laminate that provides a particularly pleasant touch sensation.
