Shipping packaging directly FROM THE MANUFACTURER

From electrical appliances and clothing to cosmetics and food: the list of products that travel by post and courier every day to reach their destination is long – and is likely to get even longer in the future.
The main reasons for this are globalisation and the booming online trade. The increasing number of available suppliers and products is prompting more and more people to buy their desired items online and have them delivered, rather than purchasing them in a local shop.
According to the German Parcel and Express Logistics Association (BIEK), more than 4 billion parcels were shipped nationwide in 2020. This represents an increase of 10 per cent within just one year and an all-time record high. Further growth is forecast for the future – both in BC2 and B2B.
Shipping packaging is therefore playing an increasingly important role in our everyday business. This is because it ensures that the goods ordered survive their often long and bumpy journeys intact. But the potential of cardboard boxes goes far beyond simply protecting goods.

Shipping packaging fulfils a whole range of functions and thus contributes significantly to a positive customer experience. The focus is not always solely on the delivery process:
Product protection: The primary purpose of shipping packaging is to protect the goods it contains (as well as their product packaging) from contamination and damage caused by transport and external influences such as light, water and dust.
Storage and transport: The typically rectangular format allows boxes to be stacked on top of each other on shelves and pallets. This makes optimum use of the available space in warehouses and vehicles and saves time and money during loading operations.
Consolidation function: Depending on the order, cardboard boxes often contain several products. This bundling reduces the consumption of resources and also facilitates order verification prior to shipping.
Information: Shipping packaging can be labelled with important information. Examples include information about weight, quantity and expiry date, as well as warnings for fragile and dangerous goods.
Marketing: Our cardboard boxes are fully printable and customisable. This gives you the opportunity to thank your customers with a greeting or an individual voucher code – for example, on the inside of the lid. It's often the little things that keep customers coming back.
Cardboard boxes are available in different designs. The type of box that is the best solution therefore depends primarily on your individual wishes and product requirements:
Folding lid boxes are just as sturdy and durable, but also offer a particularly practical feature: a folding lid. This gives your parcel a stylish look, is practical to use and resealable – ideal for e-commerce.
Does your company specialise in online retail? Then we have another recommendation for you – our return boxes with crash lock base and adhesive tape, specially developed for e-commerce. These make the returns process particularly convenient and, thanks to the glued bottom, also ensure even better product protection.

Shipping packaging is more than just thick paper; it consists of several different layers. For example, classic single-wall corrugated cardboard consists of two outer cover layers and a corrugated medium layer in between. You can find out more about cover layers and corrugated medium layers in our magazine ‘Testliner versus Kraftliner – what are the differences?’
The total number of these layers varies depending on the type of fluting. The latter is determined by the respective flute height and width and is decisive for the load-bearing capacity of a box. You will find the following types of fluting in our range:
The E-flute (also known as ‘microflute’) is characterised by particularly small waves with a height of only 1.5 mm and is mainly used for cardboard boxes for lightweight products. We recommend a maximum load of 7 kg.
The B-flute (also known as ‘fine flute’) has 3 mm high flutes, can therefore easily carry loads of up to 14 kg and is thus a significantly thicker and more robust choice than E-flute cartons as a material for shipping packaging.
EB-flute is a two-flute type of cardboard that combines E and B flutes. The two flutes measure a total of 4.5 mm. This results in a payload that can withstand a filling weight of up to 32 kg. This makes EB flute an excellent choice of material for transport packaging.
There are several factors to consider when choosing the format. For example, the box should be neither too small nor unnecessarily large. After all, the contents must not be crushed or tossed around during transport.
The following standard formats are available and are ideal for shipping with Deutsche Post or DHL:
We also manufacture boxes in custom formats. This means we can produce your shipping packaging exactly to your specifications. Simply enter all the required information regarding length, width and height into our configurator.
Tip: Every additional square centimetre of cardboard means additional consumption of valuable resources. In addition, empty space in packaging often has to be filled with materials such as polystyrene and air cushions. This is harmful to the environment and is also unpopular with many customers. Therefore, always keep sustainability in mind when choosing a format.
